We confirm the correct tank size for your household demand and verify the space, venting, and fuel or electrical supply before ordering anything
We disconnect and drain the old unit, inspect the pan and floor underneath, and check the flue or wiring before the new one goes in
We install an expansion tank if your system has a check valve or PRV—it’s required in Katy and skipping it voids most manufacturer warranties
We give you a written price before installation covering the unit, disposal of the old heater, and all connections
We relight or restore power, purge the lines, confirm hot water at every fixture, and register the warranty before we leave

Common Water Heater Installation Issues We Address

Three install mistakes account for the bulk of the water heater problems we get called in to correct later. Getting the install right the first time keeps the unit running cleanly through its full warranty period.

Improper vent slope, wrong material, or insufficient combustion air creates back-drafting that pushes combustion gases into the home. Dangerous and against code. We always vent correctly.

On a closed system (PRV or backflow installed), thermal expansion has nowhere to go without an expansion tank. The T&P valve releases, fixtures stress, and the heater fails sooner. We install one whenever code calls for it.

An unpermitted water heater install creates insurance and resale issues years later. We pull the permit on every install where code requires.

Searching for Water Heater Installation in Katy?

After installing water heaters in Katy homes from 1970s ranch builds to brand-new Cross Creek Ranch homes, we have heard the same set of questions on nearly every job. These are what homeowners ask before scheduling an install.

Can 24/7 Plumbing install a replacement water heater the same day mine fails in Katy, TX? Yes—the most common residential tank sizes, including 40-gallon and 50-gallon natural gas units, are stocked on 24/7 Plumbing trucks and same-day water heater installation is available for most Katy addresses. Call 24/7 Plumbing as soon as the unit shows signs of failure—same-day appointment slots fill through the afternoon on high-volume days, particularly in the summer months when Katy demand spikes.

What size tank water heater does my Katy home need? A 40-gallon tank is correctly sized for a household of 1 to 2 occupants; 50 gallons is the standard recommendation for a household of 3 to 4 with one or two shower users; 75 gallons or larger is appropriate for households of 5 or more, or any home with simultaneous high hot water draw—two showers plus a dishwasher running at the same time, for example. 24/7 Plumbing confirms the right size for your household on the call before the truck is dispatched, so the install isn’t delayed by a size mismatch.

Should I switch to a tankless water heater when my old tank unit is replaced in Katy? That depends on the household’s hot water usage pattern, the existing gas line supply capacity, and the total project budget—tankless water heaters are the right investment for many Katy homes and the wrong one for others. Katy’s hard water hardness means tankless units require annual professional descaling to maintain performance and warranty compliance, which is an ongoing cost tank units don’t carry. See 24/7 Plumbing’s tankless water heater installation page for a complete side-by-side comparison.

How long does residential water heater installation take in Katy, TX? A same-fuel-type tank swap—replacing a gas unit with gas, or electric with electric—in an existing water heater location is typically complete in 2 to 4 hours including removal and disposal of the old unit. A fuel-type change, a unit relocation, or a conversion to tankless is a full-day or multi-day project due to the additional gas line, venting, or electrical circuit work required.
